Story
We are members of Leven District Scouts and have been given the opportunity to represent North Yorkshire at the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019, which is being hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and Asociación de Scouts de México. The Jamboree, which will be held in West Virginia, will be attended by 45,000 scouts (boys and girls) from across the globe. There we will learn more about Scouting and take part in both modern and traditional Scouting activities.
The Jamboree will last for two weeks, with an additional week’s stay at a standard American or Canadian Scout Camp. The main Jamboree will be hosted at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, West Virginia and will offer chances to learn about different cultures and discuss real world problems and conservation. However, to be able to attend the Jamboree we each need to raise £3,800 by June 2019. This covers the cost of travel, training camps, transport, the Jamboree itself, with a proportion going to enable Scouts in less fortunate countries to go to the Jamboree.
Fundraising so far has included several coffee mornings, a quiz night, abseiling off the Tees Transporter Bridge and an Easter Raffle supported by the Co-op in Stokesley and are planning a Wine Tasting Evening and family Ceilidh.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We have heard many stories from former scouts who attended Jamborees such as Sutton Coalfield in 1957 and more recently in Japan 2015.
