Story
I am studying a level three animal management course, with aspirations to progress on to veterinary nursing and conservation. During my short time of two weeks working in Welgevondon nature reserve I will be taking part in many conservation tasks such as, the tagging of animals, veterinary care, borehole water monitoring, river and wetland health monitoring, monitoring the behaviour of the reserves elephants, and monitoring the reserves rhino population. In addition I will be working with the local communities with tasks such as painting schools, and helping to teach. As one of the off the reserve excursions, I will be visiting an orphanage. Working with the tireless staff, I will be aiding them in the teaching and general maintenance of the orphanage. Although I am aware this experience will be the experience of a life time, I feel that the experience I will gain and my passion of conservation will enable me to bring my experience to schools, colleges and universities to raise awareness for conservation in the African wilderness and as a whole. My career goal is to teach animal management and veterinary nursing. In addition I aim to host talks and workshops for conservation charities to give back to the community.
