Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
At the age of 30 and after a years back and forth with deposits and a few places falling through a few weeks ago I got the keys to my first home.
It was a repossessed property and has taken a lot of work (and more of a cost than I had originally anticipated) to get to a state where it is ready to move in. This following Bank Holiday weekend I was finally able to start moving some personal things into the flat.
Throughout the weekend I ferried a load of stuff from my parents house to the flat. On Sunday while moving some of the things in my car was broken into. The thieves threw a house brick through the window as best as I can tell just because they could see a IKEA box on the back seat that had a clothes rail in it. They took that box but also ripped out the parcel shelf and went through the boot of the car taking a bag with my laptop in it, my metro pass, paperwork for the flat (including mortgage paperwork) and a number of smaller un-replaceable bits that I had received the week before for my 30th. As well as the bag they also made of with a Nintendo Switch in a carry case with a set of games and additional controller.
To add to the insult of it they took the IKEA box and threw it in a bush up the road once they realized that there was no value to that item.
Of everything that was taken my laptop is something that I'm already struggling to be without as there are so many things saved on it that I won't be able to replace.
Over the past few days I've been in contact with my Home Insurance, Car Insurance and even with a company who I had the laptop covered with and none of them are willing to cover the theft. My Home Insurance say it was in the car so it isn't covered. My Car Insurance won't cover personal belongings and the laptop cover is only for faults.
I'm left in a position where I will need to replace the items myself but after having to overspend to get the flat ready I am now in a real financial hole and so I thought I would give this a go to see how it goes.
I feel a bit grubby having to ask for a hand out and I'm so gutted that all the insurances I have don't cover anything. I set a goal of £1,500 which I think would cover everything that was taken but I don't really expect to reach that and anything that can go towards it would really help. If I was to get anything more than needed to replace the items I will be donating any additional donations to the Victim Support Charity (Registered charity number: 298028).
The crime has been reported to the West Midlands Police and I know that the thieves ran from the car towards the Loxdale Tram stop and that it happened between 6:30 pm and 8 pm on Sunday 26th August. If you happen to have any information that can help towards the police case please contact West Midlands Police with the crime reference number 20WV 195 208 H18.
