    Story

Liam Scott was born in June 2002 to parents Pauline & Wullie Scott. As early as finding his feet he was always interested in playing with a football. So much so that rather than going to bed with a comfort blanket or a teddy bear, a football was always by his side. Liam used to set up goals in his family’s living room, don a pair of goalie gloves that were far too big for his wee hands and shout “Shoot, shoot, shoot!” to his Dad. The living room became Liam’s practice room and quite a few ornament’s & a couple of TV’s later and it was clear that Liam had found a passion that would continue throughout his life.

Liam’s playing career started at the age of just 4 years old with Holytown Colts. His Dad Wullie asked one of his friends, who was taking the under 8 team, if he could perhaps come & train with them to get him ready for the team. Only because he knew Wullie did he reluctantly agree however when he saw him play he knew he had to have him in the team.

At the age of 9, whilst scoring a hat-trick in a game that, unknown to him, had scouts watching from Motherwell, Rangers, Kilmarnock, Hamilton & Aberdeen Liam, also known as “Dan”, in reference to Desperate Dan from The Dandy, caught the eye of a Rangers scout. After the scout approached the team looking to see who 'Daniel' was, Liam was identified as the player who had caught his eye and from there he attended the Rangers Academy. At this point his Mum, Dad & the rest of the family were raging 🤣😆 that he was playing for the opposition with the family being primarily Celtic supporters however his paternal Grandfather Harry, a die hard Rangers fan, was elated!

Just a year later Liam’s Dad Wullie was told by Frankie McAvoy, now Preston North End First Team Coach, to take him to a selection game for the upcoming season squad for Hamilton Accies. The talented centre forward subsequently signed to them and would stay there for 6 years.

When Liam was due to start secondary school, he was planning on going to Taylor High School in New Stevenson however was given the opportunity to go to the Scottish FA’s performance school, Braidhurst High School, where he was one of just 92 successful applicants from a total of 3000 applications. Liam graduated from Braidhurst on the 6th September 2018 after 5 years and had the honour of being paraded during half time at the Scotland vs Belgium International game.

Shortly after leaving Braidhurst, Liam left Hamilton Accies to play for The New Bellshill Athletic Football Club. Liam also followed in his Dad’s footsteps and had become an apprentice electrician working for Saltire.

After enjoying his 18th birthday the best he could under lockdown with family & close friends with everyone sharing stories of years gone by, everything would change just 12 days later when Liam tragically lost his life at the popular beauty spot Corra Linn in New Lanark.

Why Has This Page Been Set Up?

The purpose of this Just Giving page, set up with the backing of & on behalf of Liam’s family, is not to help contribute towards his funeral or any associated costs. The purpose is to try to ensure that something positive can come from such a tragic accident. Liam’s family want to look into what safety equipment, such as life rings or SOS phones, can go at such beauty spots to hopefully stop another family having to deal with a loss in similarly tragic circumstances & raise awareness of the dangers of such spots. Liam’s family also hope to set up The Liam Scott Foundation which will aim to help the parents of other skilled children from Holytown & the surrounding areas, who come from under-privileged backgrounds, in being able to purchase football boots & other associated kit so that they too can help fulfil their dreams.

    In Conclusion

Liam was a talented, handsome young man in the peak of his life with a promising football career, a wicked sense of humour & was everything that any parent could ever wish for. Leaving his younger sister Lara & younger brother Harry, both who saw him as their idol, Liam also leaves his beautiful girlfriend Courtney whom he loved dearly.

The local community may be broken at the tragic loss of such a young life but please give whatever you can to this page so that Liam’s family can give back to the community and ensure Liam’s name & memory lives on forever.

    Thank you.
