Story
Some of you may know the story of Gloria, the white pony who was abandoned in Thorndon Country Park last year.
Having spent some time with the Soay sheep, she moved into the adjacent field and now lives with Lily (the brown one!)
Lily has lived in this field for years - alone, all year, without any shelter, or care from her owner. We didn't realise how neglected she actually was. When we did, we started to look after her as best we could. Once Gloria showed up, we decided to look after them both!
As you can see, both horses are now shiny, healthy strapping girls - & Lily is so much happier to have company (& carrots & nice warm coats!)
However, winter is suddenly here again, and when the cold winds and rain sweep in, there is nowhere for the horses to go to shelter, other than by the hedges. We've stood with them in torrential downpours - it is horrible. And soon there will be snow...
We really want to get them a real shelter before the weather gets any worse.
Unfortunately, warm coats, feed, farriers - in fact anything to do with horses! - costs money, and we cannot afford to get a shelter as well.
Gloria & Lily have so many friends and admirers now, and so many of them have kindly said they'd like to help us with this, that we are taking the Just Giving step.
We know there are so many worthwhile, inspiring & heart-rending stories on this site... and these are just 2 ponies, but they, like all animals (& people!) deserve to have as good a life as possible.
If you can help us achieve our goal & get our girls a wee house, we'd be very grateful indeed.
Thank you.
**We think the amount we're hoping to raise would buy an appropriate shelter - with delivery. It would be nice to have enough for extras such as insulation, matting, straw, etc! **

8 years agoThank you to everyone for their kindness! Really appreciated. We've had a couple of cash donations handed in at the Visitor Centre in Thorndon North as well, so the total is a wee bit over £400. We'll extend the time on here & hopefully might "build" the total a bit more! Thanks again for your support (& kind messages), Fiona

I hope you are able to organize a suitable shelter for Lilly and Gloria soon, before the worst of the winter weather sets in. It's a very worthy cause. Thank you for caring.

Lived in Thorndon Country Park for a very long time, looking after the many stray & abandoned animals that come to our door, and hand-rearing the odd goat & lambs! Also managed to raise 3 brilliant young people who care about our park, and look after Lily & Gloria too.
