Weʼve raised £895 to Clear a landslip on Limekiln green lane in Tintern Monmouthshire

Funded on Wednesday, 12th June 2019

    Story

    WHATS THE PROBLEM
Limekiln or as its officially known Chapel Hill Road is a classic green lane in the Wye Valley in Monmouthshire. It rises uphill in a South Westerly direction quite close to the famous Tintern Abbey. It is a challenging lane noted for the rock steps half way up.
At the end of last year a landslip occured in the sunken area towards the top. Monmouthshire County Council have placed a temporary traffic regulation order on it closing it to all traffic including walkers.
    WHY DO WE CARE
MCC like most councils are strapped for cash and there is a real risk that the longer the road remains closed the greater chance the temporary TRO will turn permanent at least to vehicular use. Your donation will help reopen this lane for all to use.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT
GLASS, Treadlightly and the TRF are looking to fund works to repair the lane and reopen it as soon as possible. The works require the grading of the slipped soil onto the lane and topping with stone. The grading requires the use of machinery. Some work will be done by TRF and GLASS volunteers but work with machinery requires professionals with a high level of public liability insurance to satisfy MCC.
The TRF are looking to fund half the cost and GLASS/TL the other half. The TRF will match fund a quarter of the total cost and members, trail riders and other interested parties are kindly asked to fund a quarter. £750. Not a huge amount. If you care about green lanes, whether you've used the lane in the past or may use it in the future you can help.
WHEN WILL SUPPORTERS SEE A DIFFERENCE
The works are currently mooted to be complete by the end of Feb 2019.

Yeehaa! We've reach the target 👏👏👏 Much quicker than I'd anticipated. I'm going to suggest that any excess raised betwen now and when this page closes will be donated to the TRF fighting fund for future green lane maintenance projects. So we've raised the £750 target and I believe TRF match funding will contribute a further £750. GLASS will contribute a further £1500 to collectively meet the cost of the lane repairs. A very big thank you to everyone who donated and or shared this page. Well done! 👍👏👏👏

Thanks for Kelvin for raising awareness and getting funding.Still a lot to do to improve reaction and management of these routes by County Councils, and shock-horror stories in newspapers.
