Weʼve raised £505 to Support our local boat club

    Story

We are five Lincoln College rowers looking to achieve the unlikely - rowing over two days from Oxford to London on 23rd-24th June, over 160kms and through 32 different locks, in a coxed four. Normally, this trip takes three days, but we're being ambitious – we expect 15 hours of rowing on day 1, and 12 hours of rowing on day 2!

Our target is to complete the journey in sub-30 hours (excluding overnight stay).

As well as challenging ourselves personally, we're hoping to fundraise money for our boat club. Lincoln College Boat Club is a rare thing, a fantastic place for student rowers to pick up the sport, and one of the few rowing clubs in Oxford where rowers can join for free. In order to keep this up, we need to keep an income for the club... both from the college and alumni, and from willing members like ourselves!

By your donation, you show us your belief that each of us can achieve this! We'll need it.

Thanks to everyone who donated! We did it :) we set off at 5:45am on day 1, and fought our way through 19 locks and 90km to make it to Marlow by 9pm. Passing through Henley right after the women's regatta had concluded for the day was a highlight. The last 5km was tough! But a burger in a nearby pub and a 5 hour sleep at a b&b and we were ready to do it again. We set off at 5:30am, got our tunes ready, and made sure to have plenty of breaks for our slowly deteriorating muscles! We only had 13 locks this time, but the day felt just as long (1/3)

We docked into the house of a friend of Zoë's for sandwiches and lemonade at midday, and then panicked when we thought we were nearly 2 hours behind schedule (we weren't). As we arrived at Richmond just before 7pm, spirits started to reach new highs when we realised we were on the home stretch. Passing through the enormous Richmond lock belly was particularly special, before being sent out onto the final stretch at low tide. (2/3)

We were relieved to finish the whole two days. We couldn't find any evidence of people who had done it over 2 days (instead of 3), and it seems nobody other than us was foolish enough to do it on their own without bank support! (Glenn's girlfriend met us at the finish with ice creams if that counts). Doing it in a four made for great companionship. Thank you for your donations and support. LCBC means a lot to us as a community and trips like these are just one example of how this charity enriches our days and our lives.
