    Story

Lily has been referred to a specialist equine eye hospital in Bristol. Im trying to raise £400 to go towards hiring a box twice (once to take her thier, and second to pick her up) its £120 a day to hire a box, plus £70 in fuel a day. Also the little bit after that cost is to go towards her stay at the hospital.

Back in Jan 2018 Lily’s eye started weeping, then went bright orange/chestnut (her eyes are blue normally) she was prescribed medication and eye drops, her eye then cleared up within 2 weeks. Then by the 3rd week her eye went orange again, so called vet out again. After lots of vet call outs, lots of antibiotics, many different eye drops, she was diagnosed with Uveitis, anyway that Uveitis wouldn’t clear, so bloods were done!

First bloods came back positive of leptospirosis, the other bloods took a while, but then came back with 2 more counts of Leptospirosis. Leptospirosis is extremely rare to have in horses, our local vet has years of experience and has never seen a case of Lepto in horses before. The leptospirosis has penatrated her eye 👁 😢 we cant make Lily’s eye 100% better even though lily is still on a high dose of anti -inflammatories. She’s gone off her food on and off, she’s in some pain, and is basically poorly. I’m awaiting a phone call from this specialist vet, I’m having to take lily 150miles to a vet in Bristol, who will take a sample of the fluid around Lily’s eye, then hopefully she will have a operation to remove the sponge at the back of the eye. If that’s successful lily will be able to see, and the dreaded disease will be gone, If it’s not a success she will have her eye removed 😢 I am extremely upset and anxious. I have just found out that my insurance won’t cover the trip all the way to this specialist, they will also not cover her stay at this specialist. I’m heartbroken 😞 lily is only 2 1/2.

Leptospirosis is carried by rats, mice, birds, rabbits etc and even though our yard is extremely clean this horrible disease has managed to penetrate my beautiful ponies eye 😞😞 thank you to everyone that has asked how lily is doing, and to everyone who has been there to comfort. All donations would be grately appriciated, even if its £1. Little goes a long way 👍

    UPDATE - 22nd May 2018

Lily came home this afternoon. We have now got to wait for the results of her eye tests. They expect Lily will have to go back to Bristol next week or the week after for a eye operation 😢 totalling a stupidly high amount of £2500 just for the op 😳 this is the only way we will save her precious eye! There is a 70% success rate, david the specialist wants to do this op ASAP! It’s quite a extensive operation and she will need to stay at Langfords for 2 nights. But after this trip we are all confident that lily will make a full recovery, she will need daily steroid injections which will be fed through a tube at the side of her eye 👁 😭😭😭 overall not a positive outcome for my baby girl as her eye is full of white blood cells which is clouding her eye to the extent that the vet couldn’t see the back of Lily’s eye.
