Its not easy living with cancer.
You never believe it is going to happen to you until your front door is beaten down by this pernicious monster and wreaks havoc in your personal space.
Now its Your love, Your wife, Your mom, Your child or even you. Its not that “neighbour next door” or a “friend of a friend” or “some poor child in my daughters school” anymore.
Now its the fight of your life for you to save your loved one.
Having navigated my way through life with brain cancer for over a decade, it has become clear that one of the most powerful ways forward is clinical trials focusing on gene based targeted molecular therapy. Thus, I am determined to help raise awareness and much needed funds to get these critical trials launched and help save lives where standard care treatment of surgery, radiation, and chemo have failed.
Clinical trials have given me the gift of extra time that I would not have otherwise have had. So with immense gratitude in my heart I need to pay it forward. Thus, I’m working with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston's Children's Hospital, major teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School to get a critical trial in molecular therapy off the ground thereby allowing our generation to take one significant step closer to the cure. If patients like myself are able to buy more time, step by step, we will eventually find ourselves please G-d in a world that is cancer free.
After been told that I would most likely not walk unassisted again following a complicated 10 hour brain surgery in 2010, I have challenged myself to do what would ordinarily have been the impossible with my condition - the full London marathon while currently on treatment. Having never done a full marathon before - let alone when I had full function of both my legs - I am hoping to get as much support as possible to push me across the finish line for a cause that I am willing to suffer for.
100% of funds raised will go towards the hospital to launch this trial and establish working relationships and treatment availability between USA leading institutions and the Red Cross Children's Hospital.
It costs £70 000 to launch this trial.
With “Step By Step”, a project of the Rohan Bloom Foundation, I hope to secure your pledge for each step I take when running the London Marathon next Sunday. The marathon will take 52 400 steps to complete.
