Story
This lovely little 3 year old girl Amelia from Bridge of Weir in Scotland was a normal happy toddler until 9 months ago. With quite a sudden onset she developed a limp and within months she stopped being able to walk unassisted. After 12 weeks of tests she has tragically been diagnosed with Late Infantile Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). This is a rare, genetic, degenerative, neurometabolic disorder that affects approximately one in 160,000 people (primarily children) worldwide. It is an inherited disease, but parents are typically not affected. At present, it is a disease for which there is no cure and the prognosis is sadly terminal. Amelia has two doting parents, and a loving big brother Dylan, all of whom are obviously devastated by this recent diagnosis. There are experimental treatments in the Netherlands and in Italy but as Amelia is now showing symptoms of the disease she has been refused access to these trials. Bone marrow transplants are also available for children diagnosed with MLD but this treatment is also only for children not yet showing symptoms. Sadly time is not on their side and doctors have suggested the family make the most out of the next few months. Please donate to this page to help fund a trip of a lifetime to Euro-Disney to make precious memories for Amelia and her family. The disease is a quick acting degenerative disease so memories will be important. This has saddened our village where Amelia and her family are well known and loved within the community. Please help in any way you can. Thank you for any and all support as it is much appreciated. Any extra funds will be put towards fullfilling some simple but precious chlidhood dreams in the short time little Amelia has left.

6 years agoGood luck to Amelia’s auntie Cherie Taylor who is doing the Bristol 10k tomorrow to help raise more funds on the page for the cause. Thanks also to The Gryffe Inn in Bridge of Weir for their fundraising day last week. Nearly at our target now due to the kindness of so many people.
