    Story

The Liverpool Commonwealth Association is again raising funds to support sending aid to the Caribbean following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.

Hurricane Dorian has delivered a devastating blow to two of Bahamas' major islands – Grand Bahama and Abaco. The LCA is extremely saddened by the loss of life, homes destroyed and landscape damaged.

It is estimated that approximately 70,000 people are in need of food and shelter, and private forecasters estimated that some US$3 billion in insured property was destroyed or damaged in the Caribbean.

Medical chief of staff at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau, Dr. Caroline Burnett-Garraway, said two refrigerated, 40-foot trucks would be needed to hold the “staggering” number of bodies that were expected to be found.

The Liverpool Commonwealth Association will use the funds donated to send a container of hurricane relief supplies to the Bahamas.

In 2017 and 2018 following the devastation caused by Irma and Maria The LCA successfully sent aid out to the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which included a shoe box appeal, cycles4 the Caribbean, hand, garden and power tools, generators including much needed equipment for the local Police and Fire Service.

The 2017-20118 appeal was supported by the local communities across Merseyside, Steve Biko Housing Association, St Helens Buzz Hub , Rotary Clubs , Team Rubicon UK (Operation Rudolph), Wirral based triathlete Team Tri4life , Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue and many more groups and individuals.

Preparations are now being made to send aid to the Bahamas and your help is needed to help supply needs through sending as much aid as we can sourced from the UK.

    Thank you for your support.

So sad to see all the destruction and loss of lives caused by Dorian. It could be anyone, it could be us. Let's all shed tears of LOVE together for these Bahamian families in need. One Love LCA.
