In June 2018 I am going to South Africa with Operation Wallacea for a 6 week dissertation project aiming to conserve the critically endangered Black Rhino. This voluntary project is focused on collecting data on the location, habitat and behaviour of large mammals such as the Black Rhino and African Elephant; using this research to better understand how to conserve these iconic species.

The conservation of these species is hugely important to me as an animal enthusiast and keen conservationist. Spending 6 weeks studying such incredible species in South Africa is an amazing opportunity I couldn’t possibly miss!

Whilst at the Pongola Game Reserve I will be working with world leading academics, researching how large mammals use their environments and the impact they have on them. This data can be used to explore the suitability of possible introduction sites, which is key in Black Rhino conservation.

Every donation will help to make this trip possible and therefore aid the conservation of all the incredible species found in the Pongola Game Reserve, ranging from giraffes to leopards.
