    Story

According to a recent study by Shelter, 307,000 people are sleeping rough or are accommodated in temporary housing in the UK today.

It can be easy to feel overwhelmed at the scale of the problem, but if you want to do something small to make a difference, here's a way you can do that really easily. I work for a charity called the London Jesus Centre and we're aiming to raise money to be able to keep meeting the needs of the many homeless people that come in and out of our doors every day.

"One of the hardest things to find on the streets is space. London is crowded, and everyone is always waking you up and moving you on. What you need more than anything when you are homeless is space. Space to think, to plan, to hope to dream. Space to belong and contribute. I am grateful to the Jesus Centre for offering me this space.” - Mike, a visitor to the drop-in

In this festive season, why not do something generous for those that are struggling just to survive? Anything you can spare will be really appreciated!

One of many ways the London Jesus Centre helps the homeless is by putting on a monthly Community Feast. Our Christmas event last Saturday was attended by 65 homeless guests (and an army of amazing volunteers ). In addition to the extraordinarily delicious and healthy food, it is the atmosphere of joy and genuine friendship that sets it apart. As one guest remarked: "When we're here we don't feel like we're homeless. Everyone's glad we've come and no one's waiting for us to leave. We're not in the way. It's like family - only better!"

Due to overwhelming support and interest, we have decided to double the target! Thanks so much for everyone who gave. Again ALL the money will go to support the homeless though the Welcome Project at the London Jesus Centre.. This means providing free food , showers, housing advice and social support for up to 200 homeless people a week. THANKS AGAIN!
