Story
They say charity begins at home...over the years I have supported and raised funds for many good causes but I want to do something a bit closer to home and change the life of my niece Amy McKenzie.
Amy was born premature and has been blind since birth, despite many health challenges I have watched her grow up into a beautiful, determined, strong and funny young woman who hasn't let her disability get in the way of enjoying a full life. Her bubbly personality means she makes friends wherever she goes and her forthright approach leaves you in no doubt how she feels about you, positive or negative!! This year she enrolled at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh and is thriving in this supportive environment.
I recently found out about OrCam MyEye and know this would transform Amys life beyond recognition. If I could raise enough money to buy this, it would give her the best chance at indepentant living as she grows older and allow her to enjoy all the things we take for granted...reading a book, knowing who is in the room with you, it will allow her to hear any printed text, identify colour and be able to enjoy this simple things like have a shopping experience.
I am kicking off my fundraising by joinging a group of friends and cycling around Millport dressed as the Blues Brothers, in the theme of 'everybody needs somebody!!' Photographs to follow....
So please support me where you can and together we can transform this young girls life and raise enough money to buy 'Amys Eyes'

6 years agoWe did it! And the legs have only now returned to normal! 6 hours and 3,200ft of Ben Lomond, these are the faces of 7 tired climbers at the end...for a lot of the group it was their first Munro! Thanks to everyone who supported us and donated generously, your hard earned cash is helping us towards our goal to buy these life changing glasses for Amy. The good news is that we are now 85% of the way there and I truly believe we can do it...the bad news is that I'm sure I will be involved in another crazy activity by the end of summer!

6 years agoAfter a break we are back to fundraising for Amy & hope to have her 'eyes' by the end of the year! Our next challenge is to climb a munro on Sat 14th July, we will be attempting to get up to the summit of Ben Lomond & make it all the way down alive, without the aide of mountain rescue! If you know our family, you will know the ladies are more at home in high heels than walking boots and rarely go anywhere that involves a climb unless its to a bar on a hill! So please wish us well and offer any support you can to achieve our goal for Amy.
