    Story

We would be so grateful if, instead of giving Lottie a gift for her christening, our friends and family would consider donating to the Peter Pan Ward at Great Ormond Street Hospital. They looked after Lottie so brilliantly throughout both of her operations and we would love to do something for them in return. The Peter Pan Ward looks after children having complex ENT surgery, in particular airway surgeries (as in Lottie's case) and often very difficult and upsetting procedures that require the baby or child to be tracheostomized. Yet because it is one of the least 'glamourous' and least understood specialities, they receive very little support, and they are one of the last wards still operating from the old hospital building, so the facilities are less than ideal. The emotional toll on the families of children with tracheostomies is particularly high as they often have to stay in the hospital for very long stretches while learning how to care for their child, all the while faced with a very different life when they return home. Any donations will go directly towards making life on the ward easier for children and families - in particular they have told us that they would like to restock their playroom with toys for children of all ages (especially babies, for whom there is currently very little), create a better kitchen for the parents so they can have some normality, and vitally the ward is in great need of two new oxygen monitors which we hope we can help them to fund. Any donation, however small, will be so gratefully received, and the ward matron has asked us to pass on her thanks in advance. Love, Emily, Max & Lottie xxx
