Galle, Sri Lanka is an area that has been severely devastated by a tsunami that hit south east Asia in 2004 and is still struggling to recover to this day. Me and my peers at my school, Akeley Wood, have volunteered for project Sri Lanka 2017 to travel there and lend our support for two weeks just like other students have done in previous years.

We plan to help with projects such as renovating a run down school, looking after toddlers in an orphanage where they receive very little compassion and are subjected to living in poor conditions. Others involve helping the elderly in a home for elders, teaching pupils at a local school English and basic maths and looking after children at an all girls orphanage.

This is a fantastic opportunity for young adults like myself to really make a difference to the lives of these under privileged people, while helping us gain invaluable life experience that will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
