My nan has been caring for husband with dementia for a few years now. She finds it very hard work, although she is to proud to admit, she needs some extra support and help.
He now has a bed in their living room and she has to be with him 24/7 caring for him every day and every night! Most nights hes up screaming or trying to climb out of bed not knowing where he Is! She has to sleep on the sofa and make sure he doesn't climb out of bed causing either of them any harm.
She gets no sleep and doesnt get out to do any tasks that need doing to keep up with the running of the house.
I'm trying to raise some money so that she can have Just a week off so she can get my grandad in respite and not have to worry about the costs that come with it! She doesn't get a lot of help!
She's already told me she will feel so guilty about putting him in for a week. But she needs it before it takes a toll on her health!!
Dementia is an awful disease which effects many families.
