The Current Challenge
Right now, women facing mastectomy and reconstruction choices are often shown pencil‑drawn stick‑figure sketches that bear little resemblance to a woman’s body. And when images are available, they are frequently highly medicalised and can be traumatising to view. These limited visuals, paired with verbal explanations, leave patients struggling to understand what their choices might truly mean. Without authentic, inclusive imagery, many feel uncertain, overwhelmed, and unsupported in making life‑changing decisions.
Project BRAVE was born to change this.
🎞️ What Is Project BRAVE?
Project BRAVE is a pilot initiative in Oxfordshire, supported by Against Breast Cancer and the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance. It provides a visually rich, magazine‑style guide that offers:

🗣️ Patient testimonials reflecting varied experiences and outcomes
🌍 Inclusive representation across age, ethnicity, genetics, and body diversity
