Story
Over recent years I have been visiting a married couple living in Yangon (though originally from West Myanmar.) I have witnessed their dedication to a poor village community on the outskirts of Yangon. Through gradual befriending and much prayer the community have accepted my friends' Christian love and concern for their needs. I was able to generate support for a well to be dug to provide clean water thanks to some generous local donations from my home town.
My friends started to build a Community House that would enable a community worker to live in the village, and provide refuge and shelter during the floods. The worker and other volunteers use the house to provide support for parents with young children, teach older children, care for older people and help the community in practical ways. People have the opportunity to learn about God and his love for them if they choose to.
But the house is not complete. Funding has dried up and there is still work to do. The Community Worker already lives there , though it is only a shell. They need plastering, fittings, utilities and a raised path.
My friends, who have their own three teenage children, have opened their own home to eight other orphaned children from villages in Myanmar. There is no financial support from the State. Their rent is due and I know they are struggling to pay it. I want to raise the money that will ensure they stay in their home for another year.
That's not all. My friends also run a college and provide boarding for twelve students. The aim is to provide vital further education, particularly the need to learn English, and to provide Christian teaching to prepare the next generation of people like my friends to reach out in love and hope to others such as this village community. But again, the rent for the premises is due and is difficult to afford. The students bring no financial support.
Please donate money to enable this building to be completed and for my friends to continue to raise their extended family and train the students to continue this wonderful work.
