Last year Matt and I went trekking in Nepal. We ended up staying in our guide’s family home in a small mountain village called Loding, near the Everest region. The local school, Shree Pikey Primary and Secondary School, had been demolished in the 2015 earthquake, so the children were attending lessons in makeshift corrugated iron huts while rebuilding went on around them. Furba, our guide, has told us the school is now rebuilt, including a new library that he fundraised for. All they need now is books!

Please help us to fill the new library with lovely books for the children to enjoy and to help them develop language and other skills.

We would love copies of your favourite children’s stories and money to buy series such as the Oxford Learning Tree books and to help covers costs to get them to Nepal.

The level of English is very low so books with lots of pictures and simple words are best. Books with simple concepts such as counting and colours, and comic books for the older children would be ideal. Heavy hardbacks are not great from a practical delivery point of view and there is no access to the internet so nothing that requires explanation.

We are also on the look out for anyone going to Nepal next year who would be happy to take a bag of books (extra luggage costs can be covered).
