Story
We are a group of family and friends that have seen our dear friend Lucy's health decline over the past 6 months. It all began back in the summer with Lucy suffering dizzy spells. She received treatment for Vertigo but this didn't help. She then suffered what seemed like an epileptic seizure and was taken to Queens hospital. She was admitted into hospital for 12 days where she seized several times on a daily basis. The hospital carried out some tests but couldn't find anything wrong and they sent her home. She has carried on seizing at home and is now unable to walk unaided. The seizures have manifested from Gran Mal seizures to where she now stops breathing. Lucy can not be left unattended and requires 24/7 care. She has been back and forth to the doctors and has had numerous blood tests, scans and consultations but to our frustration no definitive answers are forthcoming. The doctors think that it could be a manifestation of the autoimmune disease that Lucy had previously been diagnosed with which could now be attacking the brain. She has since been referred to the National Hospital for neurology but has just been told that no appointments are available until August. This has caused much distress and frustration to her family. We are hoping that we can raise enough funds to enable Lucy to see a private consultant and get the answers and treatments that Lucys family so desperately need. The consultant that has been recommended is not local so they will also incur travel costs on top of the medical fees.
Lucy has 3 children that help care for her in between studying and work along with friends and family that help care for her where they can but obviously the situation cannot carry on as it is.
We would be grateful if you could donate even a small amount to try and make this possible. We are also holding a few fundraisers to try and help Lucy and her family to reach their fundraising target. We appreciate you taking the time to read Lucy's story.
