The Iditarod is probably one of the most famous sled dog races in the world. Teams of Huskies assemble to do what they do best - and love doing and compete to pull their human a whopping 1688km (1049miles) through the snow in Alaska.

To commemorate this is my own way and to help raise money for a fantastic cause I am going to cover the same milage between now and April 22nd 2018 where my journey will end taking part in the London Marathon.

Of course, as much as I'd love to I won't be running in snow and pulling a sled, my miles will be mostly covered on a cross trainer, along with bikes rides, races and runs (so I won't be including my every day dog walks as that'd be cheating :D).

I'm hoping to raise £1,049 to make a pound a mile.

....just to be confusing my updates will be in kilometres as that's what most of the runs will be in lol.

I'm taking on this challenge to help raise money for Saints Sled dog rescue who help rehome huskies and malamutes (there's the Iditarod link 😜). All dogs when they come into rescue have to be vaccinated, spayed and up to date with flea and wormer before going to a new home which costs the rescue a lot of money. They also have to provide food for the dogs, toys, bedding etc which is also costly so they are struggling to help the ever growing number of dogs needing rescue space. There is also the cost of emergency boarding when a safe foster home cannot be found in time.

Saints Sled Dog Rescue is an amazing charity and provide an ongoing service for dogs and the people they help. The ongoing support for the dogs and the emotional support for the people they work with is amazing. Every dog deserves a chance and Saints give them the best chance they can.

The overall dream for the rescue is to have their own kennels and Husky world with shop, Hydrotherapy, comfortable kennel space and visitors centre. I hope this money will help with the cause.
