Hello, my name is Lucy Cairns and in the summer of 2019, I will be embarking on a once in a lifetime trip to Tanzania, East Africa. This will be a 4-week long expedition, in which we will be getting involved in community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation. We will also be given a chance to gain a Scuba Diving qualification whilst we are there.

Our main objectives during this expedition are to improve the educational and living standards within a rural district of Tanzania and to assist ongoing wildlife programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats. We will also be spending time with the Maasai tribe, when we will be learning about their culture, traditions and ways of life.

This expedition is extremely important to me because I hope to develop life skills such as collaboration, teaching, appreciation, helping others and having an experience of a lifetime where I will meet new people and make new friends. I am very much looking forward to travelling to a completely new and different country and learning their way of life, so that I can be a small part of a huge difference being made to the local community.
