I'm raising £3000 to help Starter Packs Glasgow to provide a years supply of sanitary products for the 300 females we support each year. Many of our service users are on benefits or low incomes and experience the embarassment of period poverty & having to decide between buying food or sanitary products. A recent survey by Women for Independence of 1000 women revealed that 1 in 5 of those surveyed often can't afford sanitary products and resort to using tissue, old clothing, socks & newspaper. 1 in 10 have had to prioritise buying food over buying sanitary products. 22% admitted to being unable to change their sanitary products as often as they would like which led to them feeling embarassed about their personal hygiene, along with suffering from urine infections and thrush as a result, not to mention the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome by wearing sanitary products for too long.
