My son Joshua has a rare genetic disorder causing an over growth on one of his legs. The difference between his legs at the moment is 6cm and this is progressive. consultants up and down the country are trying to find a diagnosis but so far haven't been able to. They believe that Joshua and his brother's who are twins have a very rare genetic condition that links all 3 of them together but each of them has different symptoms. Already a curvation has started to form in his spine and he suffers with back and keg pains daily now. His surgeon has decided now is the time to start the long process of trying to equalise his limb difference. This has come a lot sooner than we thought. We await his pre op and set date for surgery in which they will effectively pause the growth of his longer limb. He will be in and out of hospital for surgery after this for a number of years after. Effecting his mobility and ability to join in with sports and other activities he enjoys. This in the long run will give him a better quality of life but for a number of years it will be both emotionally and physically challenging for him. He will need to use a wheelchair for periods of time when more walking or standing is involved and the rest of the time crutches will be needed for support. Joshua really wanted to be able to go indoor sky diving with his brother's but financially this isn't possible for us. And after surgery this will not be possible for him to do due to screws and plates being in his leg. I would love to see his wish come true before he has surgery after the summer this year.
