Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
One summers night a decade ago, Tim travelled to London from his home in Wiltshire to a gig. He never made it back. He suffered a cardiac arrest, and whilst the emergency medical team saved his life, his brain was starved of oxygen and he was left with severe brain damage and Dystonia; a painful and debilitating condition which results in muscle spasms and in Tim's case, an inability to move his limbs or speak. His mind however, is as sharp as a knife and he is also one of the most talented musicians of the modern era.
Tim really needs no introduction, but for those of you who need the scene setting on our little story, he is the frontman and founder of the cult band Cardiacs. Influenced others such as Radiohead, Faith no More & Blur... their sound was, and still is totally unique. I came to discover their music later, long after Tim had fallen ill. This music however, was spellbinding and cathartic; Stunning and Schizophrenic...unlike anything ever heard before. Tim's music impacted on me and my own creativity in such a hugely influential way. It made me approach my own musical compositions in a radical and exciting manner, I was looking at music with a childlike enthusiasm again. For some of Tim's fans, the music of Cardiacs and Tim's solo writing has changed and even saved their lives and I believe it is only fitting that we can help to save his. Dipping my own toe in the pond had opened up a world full of love and beautiful people too. Through this music I have forged new friendships and and new musical skills.
Tim's friends and family decided to go public to talk about his situation which has deteriorated because of a change in funding criteria. He is at the mercy of a chronically defunded NHS and now he is at risk of loosing his place in the neuro-rehab facility where he has lived since he fell ill. The local authority wants to put Tim in a nursing home, since it would cost them half of what it would to let him stay at the current facility. This is not an option, since Tim would not recieve the proper complex therapies to give him a daily quality of life that he so desperately needs. When he is given the opportunity to work with clinicians and physiotherapists, he responds very positively and the goal is to provide him with continuing care which will allow him to eventually return home. Tim still has unfinished music languishing in his studio, and if he can access the right therapies.. he will be able to use a computer again and complete the music that we all so passionately love.
So.. what, I hear you ask, am I doing for your hard earned pennies? I am going to be running the Manchester 10K in barefoot running shoes (just very thin soled shoes designed to protect the soles of the feet). Anyone who knows me will know how much of a challenge this will be for me. I am not built to run, and training will be hard.. but this is a cause very much worth it! Dig deep and I thank you for your generosity!
