Plan:
Build 3 classrooms in Nepal, allowing 93 children to go to school in a safe, fit-for-purpose building.

Why:
There was devastation after the 2015 earthquakes. In Gorkha alone 90% of schools were destroyed. We believe that education is a basic human right and the gateway to all people's future and life opportunity and choices.

How:
We are working with Build- Up- Nepal, a local Nepali-Swedish not-for-profit company that uses earthbrick technology to reconstruct villages.
Rather than buying bricks (which are expensive to buy and transport), we will invest in a manually powered brick machine that makes the bricks out of largely local soil and a little cement at destination. We shall mould the bricks so that iron bars can be threaded through the structure, creating earthquake resistance.
Build Up Nepal shall train a local workforce to do this, allowing us to employ locals and create job opportunities.

After:
The machine shall be made available to the villagers after the school is built so the reconstruction of the rest of the village can begin. This will promote both micro-business and reconstruction of the village using a safe, cost-effective, sustainable and eco-friendly method.

Evidence:
Earthbricks (CSEM) is not a new technology. It has been used in Haiti, Pakistan and NZ successfully, all of which are earthquake-ridden countries. The government of Nepal built 16 schools using this method BEFORE the earthquakes. All are still standing, while in some cases surrounding buildings were destroyed. It is cheaper, safer, more sustainable and eco-friendlier than traditional methods.

We are raising £5500 to invest in the machine.
We have already raised the £10,000 for building materials, training and worker salary costs.
