    Story

My name is Mansel. I live in Plymouth and I am a carer for my son. I also work with the military and have met people who have been asked to leave due to mental illness or a disability. I would therefore like to set up a day centre which would be a garden and community hub, where people can learn to garden, set up their own activities and involve themselves in many areas of craft and arts.

My aim is to have the people from Plymouth use the centre to work alongside, other people with these disabilities. We want to involve school children and other organisations, to them understand that a disability is not what makes us different.

I also see a great need, helping military families overcome mental illness, because of long separation periods, due to active service. With working along side people like my own son, who have dealt with these challenges all their lives, I believe is a positive thing and a mutual benefit can be gained for both groups of people.

We have so far estimated that we need £60,000 to set up our first year of business. This will be to set up a building for daily activities, crafts, arts and cafe. We will also need to spend money on adapting areas for wheelchair access. We will also need to create a garden which will be the core activity of the project.

Currently we are working with Plymouth City Council who are very supportive in what we are doing, however we need the funding to get it going.

I've revamped the webpage for this. We have a new target as Plymouth City Council say they will match our crowdfunding. We also have a better idea of how much we will need as the project idea has grown since I first started it and we estimate a start up year one budget of £60k. So my target is to raise £30k. Read on to find out more.
