Story
We hope to raise funds to help increase awareness of Mental Health and issues surrounding suicide in South Asian Communities in memory of our beloved Brother, Son, Nephew and Friend Manveer Brar.
I will be running in the Rough Runner run along with members of my family on the 14th April 2018 to help this cause.
We wish to support and work with charities and projects that are focusing on removing the stigma attached with Mental Health issues. One such charity is called 'sikhyourmind' and one such project is 'Time to Change'.
We also hope to work with an initiative called Taraki that is working on "various strands of mental health activism - awareness campaigns, educational courses, signposting services - to help shape a network of support systems to help those going through difficulty."
We would be grateful for any donations. We would also like to encourage you to share this page. Together we can remove the taboo associated with Mental health issues!
For far too long mental health issues have been undetected for a number of reasons. Research indicates that this may be due to a lack of awareness and knowledge, the stigma associated with mental health as well as uncertainty about available services that can help. Mental well-being and physical health go hand in hand. - Sikhyourmind
We are Time to Change, the growing social movement changing how we all think and act about mental health. Still too many people are made to feel ashamed or isolated because they have a mental health problem but we're here to change that. - Time to Change
"We hope to improve the community’s understanding of a variety of mental health difficulties from depression to anxiety and dementia. Alongside this we hope to provide a better understanding of NHS and private sector services (in the area) to better equip you should you require support currently or in the future.
Sikhyourmind is an organisation set up by qualified clinicians who work in the field of mental health, to raise awareness of mental health and illness in the Sikh community. We have connected with organisations globally as we realise that we need to unite to develop this platform that will benefit our community.
Unfortunately, a lack of understanding on mental illness still exists, as well shame and stigma for not only those affected but families. We realise through our work that we need to raise awareness of the right support needed for recovery.
Doing roadshows with organisations who wish to broaden knowledge of mental health in workplace. We require funds to help us with workshops across the UK at venues that people could attend so that people can regain some hope they can recover and not have a life of suffering." - Sikhyourmind
