Margaret Carey Foundation (MCF) :: Recycling, reducing offending, rebuilding lives

Our van is three years old and has done nearly 600 miles every week, picking up bikes from landfills, taking them to prisons in remote places where the bikes can be refurbished, then collected refurbished bikes and delivering them to people in need.

Reliable transport is important for all organisations but for MCF it is simply crucial: being able to supply prison sites is fundamental to our day to day operations, as is getting refurbished bikes from the prison down to community projects for bike sales or donations. Our trainees in prison want a meaningful way to spend their time, and more local communities are learning the value of recycling, and car free lifestyles.

But the van has come to the end of its working life, and – amongst other things – now needs expensive repairs to the gear box. A week or two off road could mean that bike supplies dry up, trainees have nothing to work on, and the shop has nothing to sell. It would bring the organisation to a standstill.

That’s why we’re appealing to you, to help fund a new van, and get MCF back on the road!
