My son, Zac and I are about to attempt to drive the route of the Dakar Rally in Morocco in a Citroen Berlingo! - basically a postman Pat Van together with a team of war veterans. This gruelling 14 day route will take us through the inhospitable Western Sahara Desert with most nights sleeping in the back of the van with a food consisting of a variety of dried and tinned delights. We are doing this to raise funds for war veterans suffering from PTSD - post traumatic stress disorder.

​Driven to Extremes is an organisation that supports military veterans suffering from ​PTSD by taking them on challenging vehicle adventures as part of their recovery.

​Where as some activities such as Polar trekking and Atlantic rowing can allow too ​much thinking time, vehicle expeditions can cross continents in a matter of days. ​The relentless pace ensures that the veterans are overwhelmed with new and ​rapidly changing experiences. Operating in remote and challenging environments, ​working as valued members of a close-knit team and the support within, ​opportunities for leadership and military banter helps push horrific memories to the ​back of their minds.

​Recovery comes in 3 phases:

​Engage: ​Get veterans back into a team and focused on a clear goal by driving ​​​to an extreme location
​Support: ​Veterans then act as Support Crew for future vehicle adventures ​​​and fund-raising rallies
​Lead: ​With confidence regained, veterans become Leaders of these ​​​​adventures and rallies

​The ultimate aim of Driven to Extremes is to not only help veterans with their ​recovery, but provide a source of employment for them in an adventurous team-​based environment, be that full, part time or freelance.
