Probably one of the easiest decisions I've had to make.

I’m challenging myself to complete a channel distance swim (22 Miles - 1419 length of a pool) on 23rd of November 2018.

Alison's kidney failed in 2010 and we prepared for home dialysis, her strength and courage in such a traumatic time in our lives gave me the courage to become a Live Donor.

After many tests it was agreed that I was fit to donate, Alison had to go through plasmapheresis (similar to dialysis to filter her blood to accept my kidney) as we weren't a direct match.

On the morning of our operation, in my very attractive hospital gown, I got on one knee and proposed, It may have been the pre-med but she said Yes!

The operations went well and I'm glad to say that Alison is healthy and we were married 2 years later.

We have regular appointments at transplant unit in UHW Cardiff, Alison every three month and they see me annually.

The Live Donor team and transplant unit at UHW Cardiff who has looked after Alison for many years are a credit to the NHS, they have my heartfelt thanks for everything that they have done for us both. I hope that this small contribution will be a way showing my thanks and raising awareness of Live donation and the positive effect it can have.
