    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Welcome to our Justgiving page and thank you for your interest in our project (for the German version, please scroll down)!

We are a mother (Marlies) and a daughter (Franziska) team, and our goal is to walk 250km from Porto (Portugal) to Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in order to raise money for a small charity in Bolivia. The challenge means that we will walk between 20 and 30km per day for 10 days and our target is to raise at least £500. We know with your support we can smash this goal!

To give you some background about the charity and why it means a lot to us:

After retirement, Marlies, a graduate fashion designer by profession, started her journey of volunteering, where she spent around three months at a time in different countries, supporting small local charities. Her first trip was to India where she taught local women to sew in order to make a living for themselves and their children. She also helped in Peru, in a local foster home, and in South Africa in residential home for the elderly.

A fourth project Marlies has volunteered on, and the one which we are asking for your help support today, is a home for "young" mothers in Bolivia. In the town Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia, she supported a local charity, "Casa de Madres", where young mothers (between 10 and 18 years old; often pregnant from abuse) can find shelter and hope of a future. When they find out that they are pregnant, they often get kicked out from their families and are no longer allowed to attend local schools.

The house not only gives them a roof over their heads, it teaches them to cook, wash and sew (thanks to Marlies), and it also allows them to finish their schooling. Some of the girls that Marlies met during her time there have managed to finish their final secondary-school examinations thanks to this support. We also want to help two sisters (Selma and Cristina) to keep going with their project and help as many young woman as possible.

With every step we take towards Santiago we hope to be able to support as many young women as possible and give them a chance for a better life!

Marlies arbeitete fuer 3 Monate in einer kleinen, lokalen Wohltatigkeitsorganisation in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivien wo unschuldig Kindermütter (oft missbraucht) Zuflucht finden koennen.
