Hi, my name is Marta. I was born in Poland and have lived in England for the last 21 years.
Right now my school friends, childhood friends and people I know spend every spare moment and cash to help people of Ukraine. My home town is only about 100 miles from the border with Ukraine so they are driving there tirelessly with supplies (food, water, clothes, sleeping bags) and bringing Ukrainian people back to safety - to my home town of Lublin.
These volunteers are every-day people just like you and I. They are helping because it is the right thing to do right now, and because they care. They don't have a big bureaucratic charities behind them, no support from others. They are paying for this from their own pockets, sacrificing their time and money for the greater good.
I cannot be there to help, so I am hoping we can give them a little financial support - petrol money, money for food for refugees & supplies, it all costs money.
£50 is enough for one trip to the border and back, another £50 for food. It doesn't seem much but the wages in Poland are about 4x less than in the UK.
For this reason I am hoping we can help a bit and I know that they will be extremely grateful for any help that we can give them.
