It does not happen very often that a single person can pull the entire community of people together in the most caring, loving and genuine way. It does not happen very often that a passing of a person who held no public office or a role creates waves of sorrow and mourning that crosses the boundaries not only of a single town, but county and reaches far beyond the oceans that surround us.

Martin Parker will forever have that power.

Martin shared his cancer battle stories with us in the most honest, respectful and often funny way. We were privileged to witness his fight, his fears, his pain and his hopes whilst opening our eyes to the reality of this terrible illness. He allowed us to be his friends and he inspired so many friendships between absolute strangers we once were.

We will make sure that his memory lives forever as the reminder of what truly matters: being with one another and supporting one another when we struggle the most.

This fundraiser is dedicated to raise funds to create Martin's memorial in the form of a brand new tree and two benches surrounding it in his favourite Mellows Park in Wallington. The memorial will be co-funded by Sutton Council (50-50%) who recognises Martin's contribution to the local community.

Any funds remaining after the costs are covered will be dedicated to causes identified by Martin himself as closest to his heart. We will be able to confirm those causes once Martin's will has been read and interpreted by chosen by him solicitors. We will keep the community updated on the additional causes the funds will be shared with.

For now let's ensure his memory stays with us.
