Story
On the 9th of June I will be cycling 720km from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. The challenge is to complete this journey in 100 hours. I will be traversing the Pyrenees, scaling 18 mountains and needing to cycle more than 100 miles each day.
It’s going to be tough. But it’s not as tough as the journey this young lady, Maisie, has been through. Maisie has undergone countless operations and treatments to remove a brain tumour. This has left her unable to walk, needing a ventilator to aid her breathing and a gastronomy button to help her eat. I am hoping to raise money towards a multi-functional wheelchair - Maisie's wheels. This would make an indescribable difference to Maisie’s quality of life. It would help her rehabilitation, allow her to access more areas with her family, and improve her daily care. It would get her closer to living the normal life of a 12 year old. To find out more about 'team awesome' and keep up to date on Maisie's journey click here .
Everything life has thrown at this girl she has taken, digested, coped with unbelievably well and above all else, she has smiled
Maisie currently has three pieces of equipment, a wheelchair, a static chair for inside the house and also a standing frame all of which are vital for her to have access to - the new wheelchair would replace all three!

6 years agoSo after 99 hrs and 33 minutes I made it to the Atlantic Ocean. The last couple of days I seriously doubted I could complete the challenge. My left knee in particular had continuous pain, so I had to mainly use the right leg, which then triggered that knee. Things weren't helped by record rain fall in the Pyrenees. Well, was it worth it? Of course it was, look at that total. And, despite my 'hardship' and 'difficult' ride, it's now over. For Maisie it still continues. So let's keep supporting Team Awesome and fight 'Bob' together.

6 years agoDay 3 was epic. The roads were like rivers, I couldn't see a thing. 103 miles of swimming. My left knee has now developed quite a bit of pain which takes the mind off lesser grumbles. My cycle 'nav' must have water damage, it's telling me I'm on flat ground when I'm going up mountains. Also some worrying noise coming from the bike. The bastions of the route have changed today's course due to roadworks heading into Andorra. Good news is that it's slightly shorter. Bad news an 3 extra mountains. Forecast is.... Rain. 29 hours left to complete.

6 years ago2nd day done. Pretty brutal, lots of climbing, 8.5 hours in the saddle. Top of Tourmalet still had snow and had heavy rain for the 2nd half of the day making descending sketchy. Also v. cold and running out of dry clothes. Tomorrow another 100 miles and 3000 metres of climbing. Torrential rain forecast.
