Story
My Uncle John Broughton has been living with dementia for some time and 18months ago was omitted to a specialist hospital in Llandough Hospital, he is now in Barry Hospital.
John lead a full and active life, he served in the RAF, worked 30yrs in the police force, played rugby for Penarth, traveled the world with his wife Jean and rode route 66 across America with his motorcycle friends. I always thought of Uncle John as my hero, he looked like Steve Austin the £6 million Dollar Man.
To see such a fit and active man go downhill and not being even able to remember his wonderful memories is truly heart breaking. John is receiving good care in Barry and has his own money. Being a Rhondda boy born and bred I know he would like to improve facilities for dementia patients here in the Rhondda, so that's why I am fundraising to support other local people who are living with dementia by making a donation to Ysbyty George Thomas's new dementia unit in Treorchy.
I have entered what is billed as the toughest race in Britain - The legendary Fan Dance. This race is used as part of the selection process for the SAS and SBS. 18miles over the Breacon Beacons carrying a 20kg rucksack and against the clock.
The race is Sunday July 8th, please give your support, I'll need it.
