This summer, after the first year at the University, I will be volunteering in Fiji to improve academic and physical education of children living in extreme poverty.

Fiji is an amazing country of contrast, with beautiful beaches and nature on the one side and children suffering from poverty on the other. Schools in Fiji are understaffed and lacking in basic resources, less then 5% of children have access to education. Over one third of Fiji’s population lives in poverty, without proper access to sanitation and fresh water. Families in isolated villages struggle to meet their daily needs. Children are the one who face the biggest obstacles, with a prospect of the future with a limited education or even a complete lack of it.

Think Pacific is a small charity, who provide help in Fiji since 2009. By joining them in this great cause I will be able to make a difference by supporting children living in the poorest island villages. As a student, I strongly believe that education is crucial for a better start in life, that is why Think Pacific and their idea is very close to my heart. Being given this great opportunity to provide not only education, but also sports and extra-curricular activities I will be more then happy to engage with this project.

During the next few months I will be fundraising to help with purchase of educational resources and sports equipment for rural schools to improve life of Fijian children. I will also, hopefully, take part in different group activities (did someone say run a half-marathon?) to raise money for charity.

Any contribution will be more then appreciated and make not only me, but the whole Fijian community eternally grateful.
