Weʼve raised £1,440 to buy an infra-red vein finder (AccuVein) for the Childrens Ward at St Johns Hospital, Livingston

Funded on Friday, 17th March 2017

    Story

Last Friday (9th December) our child was in A&E at St Johns Hospital, Livingston and then stayed over in the Childrens Ward. At 2.00 in the morning, a Doctor needed to take some blood from him for a test, but it took a few goes for the needle to get into the vein, which was traumatic for our child and also for us to watch.
After experiencing the Accuvein at Glasgow Childrens Hospital, we believe this piece of apparatus should be available in all hospitals to reduce the trauma when giving blood or for cannula insertion, especially for children.
This 'vein-finder' glows infra-red light onto the skin and the veins can easily be seen, therefore ensuring more accuracy when needles are being used.
There are several types on the market at different prices and with different reviews. This is the one used at Glasgow Childrens Hospital and they are happy with it.

We've done it! Thank you everyone who has donated - we have finally reached our target. I have to wait 6 days for the funds from Justgiving to come through and then we can buy the AccuVein. This is going to make such a difference to children in St Johns. Although it cannot take away the pain of having a cannula or needle inserted, it will make a vein puncture more likely to be 'Right First Time'. I'll keep you updated as to when the AccuVein is received. Thank you all so, so much - I'm dancing! XXX

We have broken the £3000 mark! Thank you so much to Armadale Community Council who dropped in a cheque for £100 this morning, and for Uncle Hugh and Auntie Margaret for their cheque, to all those kind, generous shoppers in sunny Bathgate yesterday who donated £33 to my busking for and hour and a half. Our total raised now stands at £3013. Just £287 left to raise! Thank you, thank you, thank you! xxxxx

We have less than £500 to go! Despite the treacherous weather conditions on Thursday, £130 was raised at the mini-fundraiser. On top of that various lovely, generous people gave me cash donations of £100 and we received anonymous donations on this just-giving page too - thank you whoever you are! Therefore our fundraising so far is £2810. At the beginning, we were advised to get a stand too - which costs an additional £400, and my husband and I will be buying this. Thank you so much all you lovely, kind, people. We're nearly there! xxx

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. And also to those who are anonymous or who I don't know personally to thank you in person. On top of our just-giving page, we have also raised £1172 which means we have now raised a total of £2512. Less than £800 to go! We have a mini local fundraiser tonight and I'll be able to give a progress report on Monday. Again, thanks so much everyone. Lots and lots and lots of love to you all x
