    Story

Sadly last year I lost my step mum, Pip. During her later stages of illness, she was under the wonderful care of Ashby House in Eaglestone. When a loved one is terminally ill, there is no doubt that everyone involved needs all the support and care they can get. During Pip's time at Ashby House, I could see how well residents and families were supported at all times, and that all staff cared above and beyond for their patients and for their families and friends.

Ashby House is a residential care home that offers several different types of elderly care, including the flexibility of day care, respite care for short breaks and permanent care for those who can no longer live at home. They have a Memory Lane community specialising in the care of residents who have a dementia type illness and they also offer support to people with nursing or residential care needs.

What do I want to do?
My aim is to raise money to support the families and friends as much as the residents receiving care. Once we have raised any money, my plan is to discuss with the care home further as how to implement the donations. Depending on the amount raised it could be used to provide teas and coffees for those visiting or my ultimate goal to fund a bench for people to sit on with their loved ones in the home's garden.

    How will I fundraise?
My role will be running the Milton Keynes half marathon on Monday 1st May. Any sponsorship to do so would be gratefully received by myself and more importantly the care home.

I haven't and won't do much training. With a history of knee trouble, most (if any) training will come from rugby or the odd run. For what many families go through with loved ones, I'm sure I can get through a half marathon.

Please support me any way you can to help support as many people as possible involved with Ashby House.

    Thank you,

    Matt

Ashby House directly supported myself and my family whilst caring for my terminally ill step mum, Pip. The care that everyone receives is constantly above and beyond. I want to make sure that the way families and friends are supported continues with a bit of my own help.
