Weʼre raising £2,800 to help Matt Sharpe get his knee surgery done ASAP - rather than waiting for 12 months plus on the Australian health system
Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
For the second time, Sharpey has had a serious injury to his knee.
Having undergone surgery on his left ACL and meniscus in the last few years, he is facing the prospect of yet another operation - on his right knee! Sharpey has just found out that following another footballing injury, he has: ruptured his ACL, got a bucket handle tear of his lateral meniscus (with the anterior horn flipped?!), a medial meniscus tear and - to top it off - a grade 2 MCL tear!!
Despite all the above damage to his knee - and the subsequent pain and discomfort he is in - the Australian health service don't think they will be able to fit him in for surgery for AT LEAST another 12 months.
In Matts word's:
So I saw the Specialist this morning. He said that I definitely need surgery. Through the public system it will be free BUT at least a 12 month wait. There is a Semi public/private option which will cost $5000 but could shorten the wait to four months. Or full fee paying ($12000) would be 6 weeks wait. Because of our financial situation we are going to have to go with Public and just wait it out.
With young Oliver growing - and becoming more mobile by the day - it doesnt seem fair for Matt to have to deal with a bad knee for an indefinite period. It's also important to get this done ASAP so he doesnt have any long term damage.
IF we can help them raise $5000 Australian Dollars - the equivalent of £2,800 - he will be able to reduce the wait time from 12+ months to 4 months. Still long but probably a little more bearable for Matt as well as Mel and Oliver!
Studying at bible college full time means paying for this would be impossible for Matt and Mel. How amazing would it be if we could bless them with a gift - however big or small - to help them towards getting it sorted.
It is important to note that even if we don't reach the large target we will send it all to Matt and Mel to help towards the cost.
I do know it is a big ask and absolutely feel free to ignore this link if you aren't able to/aren't comfortable with contributing.
