    Story

    Urgent plea

    Dear feline friends

This is the biggest plea we have ever had to ask for from you!

Please say hello to maximus our little gladiator, he came to us with his siblings when he was 2 weeks old, abandoned, tiny and very hungry. Straight away our kitten foster took them in, warmed them up and started the task of 2 hourly feeds, as the days went on it came apparent that this was a very poorly litter of kits, they was all suffering one at a time from hypoglycaemia we worked tirelessly to pull them through it, we lost rosey in the first week, blue in the second week and beauty in the third week, maximus and Caesar was still fighting, maximus then had fluid under the skin which was treated and he ended up having 20 staples on his left side, it didn’t bother him in the slightest, he was so brave all he wanted afterwards was his bot bot,

He recovered well not phased by it at all even when it was time for them to be removed he just waited for his bottle. Maximus and Caesar was beginning to thrive, gaining weight, playing and do all the things 6 week old kittens should be doing, but maximus started being sick after his bottle and eating but this was different, we all didn’t really know what was going on with him, it was so frustrating, yet another trip to the vets for max to have an xray, to have a look to see where all this fluid was coming from, we knew when Ben (vet) called it wasn’t going to be good news,

Maximus has Persistent right aortic arch! He’s fluid builds up and then he is very sick. This condition is rare in kittens and the operation can only be performed at a veterinary specialist hospital.

The quicker he has the operation the more chance of his survival rate, it’s not something that he will grow out of, he will only get worse and euthanasia will be his only option. He is as bright as a button at the moment, playing with little Caesar and Leah, who is mothering him.

We have spoke to the referral hospital which is Dickwhites at Newmarket and they are keen to perform the operation as soon as possible, as you may now have gathered this is not going to be cheap, infact i think we all went into shock with the amount that it will cost to perform this operation on maximus, so we had a lot to consider and many conversations but it all came down to the same conclusion “maximus is a Survivor, he’s a fighter, he’s been through so much in 6 weeks already and he still isn’t phased by it, we owe it to him to give him a chance, if he was owned and insured it wouldn’t be an option but he isn’t.

The total cost for this operation is nothing short of £5000 and needs to be carried out on him by Tuesday 30th October 2018

So we are appealing to you all on our page at Alresford kitten and feral rescue to please donate to maximus fund.

We have over 4000 kind people on our page, if you all donated as little as £1.20 then we would reach our target

** Update – 31st October *** Maximus has narrowing of the oesophagus and they have advised that there is no treatment for this. He will need a follow up appointment in four weeks’ time. We are devastated but we are going to leave no stone unturned to see what we can do to give Maximus the best life but really do not know at this stage what the immediate future holds for him and what his life expectancy will be. Thank you all so, so much for your continued support and we will keep you updated. Xxx

max’s vet called this morning saying that he had his scan and tests and that he was just coming around from his Anaesthetic, it turns out that it doesn’t look like he has persistent right Aortic Arch, which is great news. But there is a slight narrowing in his oesphagus but they are unsure if that is what is causing his problem, maximus consultant now needs to wait until tomorrow morning to discuss whether they need to operate or if they need to wait until he is a little bit older. Best wishes Claire & maximus
