Story
Ladies and gentlemen, as you will have seen with my many recent cycling bore posts (tour de Bunsen etc) I have been building to an event. On Wed 29th September I am cycling to be included in the Club Des Cingles du Mont Ventoux hall of fame to raise awareness of Neuroendocrine Cancer (NET) on behalf of Johnnie's Journey. My good friend Johnnie Meechan whom many of you will already know, had an amputation early in life after an initial battle with cancer. 5 years ago after feeling ill and reassessment it was discovered he had a neuroendocrine tumour. With this horrendous news he decided to raise awareness of his not rare but little known condition by selflessly fundraising through several channels and helping others in return for promotion of his journey. As recently as Xmas 2020 during the pandemic a sizable 4 figure sum was raised to help food banks all over East Lothian. All monies raised will again be donated to charities of Johnnie Meechan's choosing across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
So to the Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux. It translates as club of the crazed of Mont Ventoux. In one day you must travel to the summit of the mountain and down again 3 times from three different towns at it's base in Southern France. Bedoin, Malucenne and Sault. It is 4400 metres of climbing and 137km total distance. Each climb is about 21km long with gradients of up to 12% at points. It was used as stage 11 in the Tour de France on July 7th 2021. There is a card to be stamped at points in the town and at the observatory at the summit and once completed and sent off and verified, I am admitted to the club with a certificate, medal and bike sticker mailed later. Please donate whatever you can afford to, it will be greatly appreciated by Johnnie, his team and myself. I have attached links for reference for NET Cancer and the Club des Cingles. Let's fight this.
Many thanks,
Bunsen.
