Prem Sadan is a girls orphanage at Mudh Island just outside Mumbai. It caters for girls between 6-18 and I was lucky enough to visit last year.

When I went 85 girls were being cared for which is more than the orphanage can hold. They live in the most basic of conditions. Water for only a few hours a day, basic electricity and they sleep 20+ girls to a room on mats on the floor with a locker each to keep their only possessions.

1 in 5 girls do not make it to 16 in India. These girls have been subject to neglect and abuse, some from birth.

The orphanage is run by nuns, these girls are the lucky ones. They are cared for and educated. £350 pays for a months education for all girls. I believe the educated educate and that promises future hope for girls in India.
