    Story

On the 27th of April, Michael Green, Charlie Green and Lee Harrington will be joining me on a grueling 500km cycle ride from Oxford to Lands End over 3 days.

This is to raise money to support Melanie Roberts, and this is her story... Melanie is without doubt one of the most courageous people I have ever known, and I’m so proud to call her my Auntie! In 2008, she was wrongly diagnosed with Lymes Disease and it wasn’t until 2013 that the doctors discovered that she was actually suffering from progressive Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a condition of the central nervous system where the coating around nerve fibres is damaged, causing a range of symptoms such as muscle spasms, weakness, numbness, severely reduced mobility, vision and speech impairment and fatigue. The progressive MS that Melanie has slowly worsens over time, and unfortunately there is no cure.

After 5 and a half months of intensive therapy she has finally returned home where she will continue to receive physiotherapy to try and improve her symptoms. Due to the delayed diagnosis of her condition her symptoms are now fairly advanced and unfortunately they have almost completely restricted her mobility so she relies on her son and daughter to care for her on a daily basis.

MS has taken her freedom, ability to work and live a normal life and
yet this incredible woman is still beaming and happy every time I speak to her. It has left her without the ability to work which has put a huge strain on her finances, meaning that there is no way of her funding the necessary specialist equipment to make each day easier. Our immediate challenge is to improve Melanie’s mobility and give her back her independence. Our aim is to raise the target of £10,000 in order to provide her with a specialised wheelchair so that she can regain an element of normality in her life.

Thank you for your support, it means the world to me and my family!
