At Melrose Bowling Club we are proud that our youngest member, Ryan Turnbull (aged 13), has set himself the ambitious target to raise enough funds to purchase and install a Defibrillator at our Club in 2021.

This new Defibrillator will be installed on the external wall our our clubhouse building, so that it becomes a vital facility not only to support members, players and visitors to our club, but importantly it will also be fully accessible in case of need for the people and community of Melrose.

There are over 30,000 Cardiac Arrests per year in the UK outside of hospital and less than 1 in 10 victims survive. The average response time following a 999 call in the UK is 8-12 minutes, and with Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), every minute counts. Defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 50-70%. This means with more public access defibs, we can significantly improve survival rates.

Ryan is organising a 12 Hour Bowling Marathon to be played on Saturday 18th September 2021 and he will lead and play in the Melrose Team. He will be supported by his chosen team of Melrose Bowlers and will be inviting opposition teams to play against his marathon team throughout the 12 Hour period. Ryan's fundraising proposal is fully endorsed and supported by the Club Management Committee.

All sponsorship and donations will go directly into the Clubs Defibrillator Fund and we are working closely with Ryan and local organisations to take advice and source the best quality equipment option available to us.
