    Story

Please help us rebuild our beloved club

We are raising funds for our beloved little football club, Melton Town FC, at Melton Sports Village on Burton Road, Melton Mowbray, which was broken into and vandalised by teenage criminals in the early hours of Sunday 16th August 2020. Despite vigilant members of the public raising the alarm when they heard the noise, the perpetrators had already caused thousands of pounds worth of damage before they were thankfully apprehended by local police and arrested. We await news of charges and convictions.

Our tea kiosk, clubhouse and bar were destroyed. Every single pane of glass was shattered, the fridges, ovens, tea-making and catering equipment smashed, audio and tannoy kit broken, every cup and glass crushed, changing room windows bashed in, furniture ruined, even the dugouts smashed. It is sickening and absolutely heart-wrenching.

In the words of our Chairman, Sam Ellis, "In what was already a tough year, with the club robbed of promotion due to the Covid pandemic after a fantastic season in the United Counties League, this incident has broken the hearts of the players, fans and club committee at the start of the new season, just as we were poised and ready to give it our best shot again. Anyone who has been involved in grassroots sport, who has volunteered their precious time and effort on a club committee, has played or supported on the touchline to keep a club alive, will share in our utter devastation."

Refusing to give in to mindless vandals, and determined to rebuild, we are raising funds to repair the damage. Any donation, however small, would be gratefully received and used directly for the repairs. If you have any kitchen or catering equipment to donate that you think could be useful to the club, please contact our groundsman Matt Roberton on 07854 291188, and we will arrange to pick it up. We ask you to please share this crowdfunding link as widely as you can.

With thanks from the players, committee and fans,

    Melton Town FC
