Story
How honest can men be about their Mental Health?
It’s only been a year since MenTalkHealth started as podcast in a small flat in London but since that night, more and more people are joining the MTH family and encouraging people in their lives to talk about mental health. We believe the more we talk and share our own experiences; the more we can get rid of the stigma surrounding mental health.
Men, particularly, are less likely to ask for help and suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45.
MenTalkHealth has taken on the challenge of helping people up and down the country find their voice and we need your support to help others. Through podcasts, live events and talks at events like Southbank’s Being A Man Festival, we have reached so many people with our honesty and humour but we need to reach more.
We are working towards our Charity Status but in the mean time we rely on raising funds from our supporters like you.
One of our founders, Davey, has assembled a team who believe in the work MenTalkHealth does and has challenged them take on the challenge of Tough Mudder in Scotland on19th June.
It’s not just a physical feat to achieve, but also an event that encourages you to share and work with your team. Exactly the mentality we encourage here at MenTalkHealth. So please take a moment, read our team's stories and donate needed funds so we can produce more podcasts, host more events and find more ways to help get men talking.
Meet the Team
DAVEY is a Founder of MenTalkHealth, a man who has survived his brushes with suicide and mental health advocate.
We are taught as men to not talk about how we are feeling but after I nearly took my own life, it was through talking with my friends honestly that helped bring me back from the edge. I’m not ‘better’ but simply knowing I can talk and laugh with those around me about what I am going through, it makes it that little bit more bearable. That is why I created MenTalkHealth"
GRAHAM has been supporting Davey through his struggles for many years and has seen first hand the need for men to work together when it comes to mental health.
I'm really looking forward to working with my friends as a team to overcome these obstacles, which to me really reflects what MenTalkHealth is all about.
PAM is doing Tough Mudder for MenTalkHealth because she's seen first hand why it's important for people to be able to talk open and honestly about their mental health.
Tough Mudder, like mental health is a challenge but true strength lies in the ability to reach out to others. We are going to do this as a team.
JAMIE has supported those around him for many years, recognising that mental illness affects not just those with it, but also those who try to help and care for their friends and family members.
I would hate to think my friends would be too scared to talk to me about their mental health. I'm doing this challenge to let those around me know, I'm always here to listen and support in any way I can.
ANTHONY knows a little bit of trying to manage your own mental health, experiencing his own battle with his self-esteem and body dysmorphia.
This year for me, Tough Mudder represents the physical manifestation of the struggles those living with mental illness can experience. Having a goal is great for giving me a sense of purpose and something to work towards. Having a team around you, picking you up when you fall, can help you battle any obstacle.
As a fitness freak and competitive rower, ROSS is hoping to help the team push through and succeed in spectacular fashion when they tackle the Tough Mudder challenge. Ross is delighted to help raise awareness of MenTalk Health and all the great work it does in shining a light on men's mental health issues.
ANTONY is looking forward to the challenge of Tough Mudder but, more importantly, to the opportunity to raise awareness for such a fantastic organisation that gives people the opportunity to discuss and educate themselves about mental health issues affecting men - a subject so often overlooked and hushed up in the past.
DANIEL is a long time supporter of MenTalkHealth and has been instrumental to in helping MTH reach more men in Scotland by contributing to the MTH podcast and inviting Davey to to different in Scotland.
Having had my own mental health challenges, and having learned how to manage them, my goal is to help others who might be going through a tough time. Tough Mudder represents what managing your mental health is all about: overcoming obstacles, reaching out to others for support, and going through highs and lows. I can't wait to be a part of this important challenge.

When I did the Kiltwalk I did it alone and went home on my own. You have support and it must make it more fun. I have hardly any friends in Glasgow so listening helped me feel connected. Thanks.
