Weʼve raised £265 to help Fred to have a bone marrow transplant

    Story

I would like to raise as much money as I possibly can to go towards helping Fred’s parents Robert and Beatrice to reach their target of 10 million Kenyan Shillings (£76,000) which is the cost for having a bone marrow transplant in South Africa. Kenya hasn’t got the medical facilities to carry out this procedure.

Their son Fred is 16 years old. He was diagnosed with Leukemia ALL-L2 in early 2015 after over one year of experiencing chest pains, fatigue and various telltale signs of leukemia which were misdiagnosed by local doctors who treated him for chest pains.

He has undergone 11 courses of chemotherapy and 10 courses of radiotherapy since his diagnosis. His latest blood tests in June this year revealed a low white blood cells count and a bone marrow analysis confirmed this.

His doctor has advised that he should have a bone marrow transplant.

Fred’s dream was to study law, however, after his long period of misdiagnosis, long stays in hospital and seeing other suffering patients, he now wants to pursue a career in medicine.

Fred is family and my heart is crying out for him to get well and live to fulfill his life’s ambition of helping the sick. I know that his parents and our entire family are not in a position to raise the £76,000 to see him get treatment. I am doing this as I know the power of giving and the hope that receiving brings to people who are in a position of hopelessness.

Fred’s optimism, bravery and outlook of life even in such difficult circumstances is unbelievable. He does not want to see him mum, dad and siblings cry when he is suffering and often puts on a brave face even when he is in the most excruciating pain just so they do not worry about him.

Any giving will go a long way to help Fred and even though he will be unable to personally thank you, he already said a very very big thank you for your kindness in advance of receiving anything.
Please help me support his plight. Thank you

After a long silence (but busy fundraising in other ways), I thought I'd give you all (Fred's supporters) an update. We have reached our first Kenyan million! With your support, we raised £265 through just giving and the rest via other fundraising events. Let's do this a million kenyan shillings at a time. That's equivalent of £8,000. Another £27,000 to go. I believe we can do this. Any amount is highly appreciated. Please keep giving. Thank you very much.

Thank you Karen, Kim, Sandra and the anonymous donor for your generous donations. It is still early days so thank you for viewing the page, reading Fred's story, sharing it and most of all for donating towards his treatment. Fred is feeling a bit stronger now between treatments but it won't be long before the agony of the next course of chemo bring him down again. Your support will enable him to live a near normal life . Thank you.

I am a wife and a mother of 2 children living and working in the UK. Fred is my maternal cousin's son. My aunt and uncle are deceased. Lots of children in developing countries die due to lack of funds for life saving operations and i would like to help make a difference for Fred.
