What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Story

The collapse at the hydroelectric dam in Attapeu province of Laos late on Monday sent flash floods through six villages.

More than 6,600 people have been made homeless,

We urgently need funds to provide supplies of tents, malaria tablets, medical supplies, generators, bedding and clothing. Please will you help?

The disaster has claimed an unknown number of lives left hundreds of people missing.

The country is rallying rescue teams and emergency supplies as quickly as possible.

As at Saturday 28th July there’s no news coverage allowed in the flood zone so having accurate information on the situation has been vague. From our understanding, it is still considered SEARCH & RESCUE zone right now rescue teams from Laos, Thailand and China are working together to bring people to dry land. All donations are to be dropped off at one of the four evacuation sites set up, the biggest one in Paksong, a warehouse where hundreds of people found refugee. All those families have since been sent back to their villages from this site. In total it appears that11 villages were affected by the flood, of which 6 got hit the hardest.

Some things that are still in short supply for the survivors: undergarments, feminine hygiene products, dental supplies, toiletries, blankets, pillows, and tents or tarpaulins for use as temporary shelters.

This is the rainy season here in Lao which will continue to hamper the rescue effort and make living conditions in temporary shelters very unpleasant.

Please help if you can.

Now at 74%. No longer front page news although little real progress has been made at the site due to the difficult environmental conditions which hamper rescue efforts. Getting accurate information is difficult and we rely upon the local population and rescue teams for updates. There’s no news coverage allowed in the flood zone. From our understanding, it is still considered SEARCH & RESCUE zone with rescue teams from Laos, Thailand and China working together to bring people to dry land. Good news is that donated goods are arriving on site.

Keep on doing the great work you've been doing since you moved to Laos. I hope you reach your target and that you're able to help fix all the problems caused by that dam bursting.

Hello I am Meryl and after a career spent in financial services I moved to Luang Prabang, Lao PDR with my husband Steve in 2016. We run a small guesthouse and burger bar here which allows us to spend some of our time fundraising to help those less fortunate.
